Here’s my clean & green smoothie of the day.  It’s all natural, low cal, low carb, full of fiber, and is providing me with the energy I need for the day! Again my friends, I can’t stress enough for you not to judge smoothies by their colors.  This smoothie may be super green, but it’s actually sweet, creamy, and delicious – not to mention packed with nutrient packed supefoods!  Read some info about why below.

superfood smoothieIt contains ingredients like kale, spinach, strawberries, and chia seeds in it.  As always, find the complete list of ingredients and the recipe on my “Recipe” page!

Why are they superfoods…? Here’s just a few (of MANY) reasons:

Kale – Nutritionally dense, kale has an abundance of phytochemicals, substances associated with the prevention of cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and hypertension.

Spinach – One cup of fresh spinach (or 1/6 cup of cooked spinach) contains twice your daily vitamin K needs. This, along with the calcium and magnesium in spinach, is essential to maintain healthy bones. (Think Popeye!) 😉

Strawberries – Antiviral, anticancer, fat free, cholesterol free, high in fiber, and high in potassium, strawberries are packed with vitamin C, which may lower the risk of cancers of the gastrointestinal tract.

Chia Seeds – Deriving from the Mayan word meaning “strengthening,” chia seeds are rich in omega 3 fatty acids, which enhance immunity and healthy brain activity.  Full of antioxidants, fiber, calcium, protein and a number of other vitamins and minerals, they’re also nutrient dense.  They regulate blood sugar levels, aiding weight loss, and support both the kidneys and bladder.
